Center on Halsted is the Midwest’s most comprehensive community center dedicated to building and strengthening the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) community. More than 1,000 community members visit the Center every day, located in the heart of Chicago’s Lakeview Neighborhood.
They work to provide a safe and welcoming environment with programs and services for the entire community. Programs range from volleyball, dance performances and cooking classes to rapid HIV testing, group therapy and vocational training. In addition, they partner regularly with other organizations and groups from across Chicago and the nation to provide additional programming for the community.
Center on Halsted also serves as an incubator for a number of smaller LGBTQ non-profit organizations, called Resident Partners. They provide operational support, space and resources for organizations that may otherwise find it difficult to interact and grow.
Though Center on Halsted’s building opened in 2007, our history actually goes back much farther when we were known as Horizons Community Services, the Midwest’s largest LGBTQ social service agency. Center on Halsted is proud of our legacy of advocacy, support and educational services. The same services that helped form the core of Center on Halsted’s programming.
Center on Halsted provides a vast array of programs and services designed to build and strengthen Chicago’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBTQ) and allied community. From cooking classes, yoga and volleyball games to job placement, HIV testing and group therapy, we work hard to enrich the lives of the 1,000+ people who visit Center on Halsted every single day.
